Review of Myst Cafe Bar

Name: Myst Café Bar [A division of Chillies Café]
Address: 06 – A, Royal Classic, New Link Road, Andheri(W) – Mumbai – 58
Tel No: 26301660 / 2636 2345 / 98694 80851
Type: Restaurant
[Though the name is Café Bar, its actually neither]
On the Menu: The restaurant does not have a particular cuisine. It’s a mixed bag. North Indian, Italian & a few Thai dishes form the menu. The usual mocktails and fresh fruit juices fill the drinks category.
Ambience: I found the ambience a bit dark. My friends and I had been to the restaurant in the afternoon, despite that it seemed a bit dark. Interiors are done with dark wood with a bit of dark grey steel like finishing on the pillars and walls. The seating space is in the form of separate sections which are lower than the walking area. One has to step down a bit into the space where the seating arrangement has been made. However, there is also a layout at normal floor height and we preferred that.
Items Ordered: Ice Tea, Garlic Butter Prawns, Butter Chicken, Chicken Biryani, Red Bull and of course Rotis..
About the Food: The items on the menu are well explained. I think this should be made mandatory in all the hotels as it saves the customer from harassing the waiter, who, in almost all cases, has little or no knowledge about the food.
Ice tea was usual fare, nothing special. However, the Garlic butter prawns were special. Tiger prawns shallow fried with butter and garlic were extremely good. However, the one thing lacking in them was spice. They were pretty bland.
Moving on to the main course; Butter Chicken, they say is their specialty. It sure tasted so. Well cooked (or should I say well tandoor’ed), soft chicken in a smooth tomato base gravy. It was mildly spicy and went well with the soft and hot wheat rotis. It was just sufficient for 3 people. Chicken Biryani was undoubtedly the best dish we ordered. Surprisingly, it appeared nowhere on the menu. I casually asked the waiter whether it was available and he gave an affirmative reply. Even this dish I found it a bit spicy but tasty. The quantity too was adequate. One of the tastiest biryanis I have had, for sure!
Service: Service was decent. Due to a small gap between the seating area and the pillar, the waiter accidentally dropped the glass of ice tea. Nevertheless, it was cleaned up promptly and apologies were given. Serving time is around 15 minutes. The waiters are courteous and do ask about the food, whether we liked it or no.
Specialty: They say its Butter Chicken; but I advised them to change it to Chicken Biryani and also told them to please include it on the menu!
Value for Money: I found it to be a bit pricey. Though the quantity offered is decent, the dishes have been priced slightly higher than normal restaurant prices. Chicken Biryani was 175/- and the Butter Chicken 160/-. Pricing of the prawns went over the top at 295/-. Seafood, I checked, was quite highly priced.
(Price exclusive of taxes)
To Sum it Up: The restaurant does live up to its claim of offering a fine dining experience. Go there for the food, especially for non-vegans. My friend tempted me in a similar manner (it offers the best non-veg food) and it was true. Whether it’s the best or no will only be decided through future reviews of other restaurants, though it will surely serve as a benchmark. Happy Eating!!
